What is a Rep Team?

Rep Teams will be fielded in all age divisions from U11 and up (in both minor and female) and will compete as "A" or "B" divisional teams. If there are sufficient numbers, a "C" Team may exist in a division. An A must exist in a division before a B Team can be established. There is a larger commitment to this team as it will travel more often and this cost will be split among all players traveling. These teams are formed during the house league season and will compete in potential games and tournaments leading up to the final end of season Provincial Tournament. Provincial tournament locations are typically announced by Hockey NL in early February and could be anywhere in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

When I choose yes, my child is interested in trying our for a REP team, what do I agree to?

All Rep Teams will be chosen by a Selection Committee. The committee will be comprised of Coaches and Executive Members. If a division does not have sufficient numbers to enter two Rep Teams in HNL play, only one team will be chosen. The size of the teams will be determined by the Coaches in consultation with SMHA Executive before the Selection Process is complete based on HNL Guidelines.
Please note that REP TEAM participation requires an additional Rep Team Registration Fee of $200 to be paid to SMHA, upon being named to a Rep Roster. All Rep Team players will be required to commit to travel as well as extra practices. Any costs associated with this travel and additional practice times will be the responsibility of the participants and not SMHA.
As part of the selection process, players are expected to commit to participation in the All NL Provincial Tournament. Following the selection process, if a player becomes unable to play in the Tournament it is the obligation of the parent of the player to disclose same immediately to the Rep Team Manager. In such circumstance it will be the decision of the Executive as to the action to be taken which can include the selection of a replacement player to assure that the team complies with HNL requirements for roster sizes and also allowing the player to remain with the team notwithstanding the fact that he or she won’t be available for the Tournament.
Players are expected to attend all games and practices as required by the coaching staff. All players must also attend house-league games and practices on a regular basis. Failure to do so could result in dismissal from the Rep Team. A player may also be dismissed from the Rep Team for disciplinary reasons (issues that may arise on and off the ice while participating in Minor Hockey events).

Is there a cost associated with Rep Teams?

Yes. Cost associated with Rep Teams include but are not limited to; Registration for HockeyNL Provincial Tournament, Ice Time, etc. There is a $200 player rep team fee that is due to the Team Manager when rosters are announced. This fee helps with the afore mentioned costs. If more monies are required, the team manager will let you know. If teams wish to fundraise to help with costs, the team manager must contact us at stephenvilleminorhockey.com with the details of the fundraiser they would like to do.

What is the policy on Rep Team fundraising?

No team or individual or group shall be permitted to raise funds for purposes or reasons associated with SMHA without written consent from the Executive. Each Rep Team is permitted one (1) major fundraiser per season. The REP Team Manager will be designated as one of the signing agent monies raiser for that team. The Treasurer of the Association will be designated as the other. All monies collected in a fundraiser will be handed to the Treasurer of the Association. The disbursement of the collected funds to the Rep Team will be subject to the approval of the Executive, and disbursed to players that choose to participate in the fundraiser, and attend the Provincial tournament.
